It’s back-to-school time, and even though my kids are doing remote learning this year, one thing hasn’t changed. As soon as school is over, they are rummaging through the refrigerator and cabinets, looking for snacks. Normally I encourage fruit, yogurt, cheese, and other healthier snacks, but once in a while, I like to make something special.

Cinnamon cream cheese puffs are a fresh-baked way to welcome guests.

Back when I was a kid, my mother made these a few times and I went crazy over them. I remember watching her make them, from cutting the cream cheese to rolling the pastry in cinnamon sugar. Yet somehow I was still pleasantly surprised at the warm, gooshy cream cheese nestled in the center of each puff. I could never decide which I liked better: licking all the good stuff out of the center or licking my cinnamony fingers after I had devoured my snack.

Enjoy a cinnamon cream cheese puff for a snack or even for breakfast.

Nowadays, my kids prefer a grab n go approach as they rush in and out of the kitchen between online classes. But me? I like to linger over a couple of puffs with a cup of coffee in the morning … and I still love licking the cinnamon off my fingers when I’m through.

Directions

  • In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon until they are well-mixed. Set this aside for later.
  • Next, cut the cream cheese block into 12 equal parts. I do this by cutting it in thirds lengthwise, then by making four cuts widthwise.
  • Roll ten of the newly cut blocks of cream cheese into balls. You will not be using two cream cheese blocks, so you can set these aside for something else. Maybe treat yourself to a yummy toasted bagel!
  • Roll each cheese ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, then set them aside.
  • Open the tube of biscuits. Remove one and press it into a flattened circle, about 3 1/2u0022 in diameter.
  • Place a sugared cheese ball in the center of the flattened biscuit.
  • Fold the dough around the cream cheese ball.
  • Pinch the seams to seal in the cream cheese.
  • Roll the dough ball to fully seal the puff. Repeat procedure with all biscuits.
  • Dip each ball in melted butter, then cinnamon-sugar mixture. Lay each puff on an ungreased cookie sheet, at least an inch apart. They will expand as they bake.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

They’re well worth a cheat day … but let’s sweeten the pot. Try them with a little hot fudge drizzle and some whipped cream. I say go big or go home! 😀

  4. OMG, these puffs look so good, and easy to make as well. I love the idea of the cream cheese in the middle and you definitely can’t go wrong with cinnamon sugar! I am thinking that I could make a glaze type of dip and serve a platter of the Cinnamon Cream Cheese Puffs with the dip on the side.

I LOVE how you think! ‘Tis the season for apples. An apple cider glaze would be delicious with these!
