April is National Grilled Cheese month. To celebrate, Chicagoland grocery store Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets hosted a recipe contest in search of the best grilled cheese recipes.
Entrants were asked to supply their grilled cheese recipe, along with a photo of their sandwich. The staff at Caputo’s reviewed all recipes and tested them out. Winners were chosen based on overall sandwich flavor.
Carolyn, of Chicken Soup with Dumplings, was delighted to receive the news that her Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese was awarded first place in the contest. She created the sandwich using roasted jalapeno peppers, bacon, American cheese and cream cheese on sourdough bread. The sandwich was grilled the traditional way, using a stovetop skillet.
Her sandwich recipe will be included in “The Recipe Rack” recipe database on Caputo’s website for all to enjoy. As a special treat, her Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese sandwich will be featured on the menu at select Caputo’s in-store cafes on Fridays during the month of April.
